Yurav Premlall stormed to a record-breaking 14-shot victory as he clinched his first DP World Tour title at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship.
The South African began the day five shots clear at the top of the leaderboard before firing a second successive 63 to break the record for the biggest winning margin for a maiden DP World Tour win.
The 22-year-old finished the week on 28 under par, 14 ahead of his nearest challenger – countryman Shaun Norris – on 14 under. England’s Dan Bradbury finished in a tie for sixth on 12 under.
That winning margin was just one shot short of the overall record, set by Tiger Woods as he romped to the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2000.
“No words,” Premlall said. “I’ve worked so hard to get into this position and it’s so rewarding to finally see the results of it.
“I mean the last eight, nine months have been such a struggle just to build myself onto a platform where I know I could give myself a chance to win and to end up obviously in this position.
“I’m just so grateful so it’s a dream come true.
The runaway winner also left Real Club de Golf El Prat with the $50,000 (£37,000) for breaking the course record on Saturday, a tally he matched on Sunday.
