A Secret Service officer was arrested and placed on leave after allegedly exposing himself and masturbating in front of guests at a Miami hotel.

John Spillman, 33, “committed the offense of indecent exposure” at a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center late Sunday night, according to an arrest report obtained by WSVN.

Hotel visitors told investigators they were in the lobby, and Spillman started following them, making guests retreat to their rooms for safety. One guest told authorities she and others were in “fear for their lives,” according to the report.

The guests then “saw the defendant masturbating next to their hotel room,” prompting them to call hotel security.

Spillman was found “with his pants lowered and masturbating on the sixth floor,” the arrest report says.

He was taken into custody just after midnight Monday, authorities said. The Independent has contacted the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for more information.

Spillman is originally from Marble Falls, Texas, but is based in Washington, D.C. He was in South Florida as a security perimeter screening detail at Trump National Doral ahead of President Donald Trump’s Saturday visit to the 2026 PGA Cadillac Championship.

Spillman’s assignment in South Florida concluded Sunday, and he was not working at the time of the incident.

He appeared in bond court at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday, where the judge did not mention his role working for the federal government, according to the outlet.

Spillman remained in jail as of Tuesday morning. He is being held on a $1,000 bond.

The Secret Service placed Spillman on administrative leave. His ability to return to work depends the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations, according to the report.

Richard Macauley, Chief of the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, decried Spillman’s alleged actions as “unacceptable” in a statement.

“The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity that I demand of our personnel,” the statement read.

Spillman is expected to return to court on May 27.

The Independent has contacted the Secret Service for comment.
