Amy Grant’s husband, Vince Gill, encouraged her to accept things she can’t change and try to make the best of it after the singer suffered a traumatic brain injury from a scary 2022 bike crash.

“[Gill] just said, ‘Amy, life happens to every one of us every day. A virtuoso musician could have a stroke and never be able to pick up their instrument again,’” Grant, 65, told host Rachel Martin during NPR’s “Wild Card” podcast Thursday.

“‘All you do is you just take the hand you’re dealt that day and live the life that you get,’” she recalled.

The “Baby, Baby” singer and 69-year-old Gill, who is also a famed singer-songwriter, met in December 1993 and tied the knot in March 2000.

They welcomed daughter Corrina, 25, in March 2001. Grant also shares three kids with her first husband, musician Gary Chapman, while Gill shares another daughter with his first wife, country singer Janis Oliver.

But Grant began suffering a spate of health issues beginning in 2020 when she had to undergo life-saving open-heart surgery to correct a rare congenital heart condition.

Then, in July 2022, the “Every Heartbeat” hitmaker crashed her bicycle after hitting a pothole during a ride around Nashville.

Grant suffered a traumatic brain injury during the incident and was reportedly left unconscious for about 10 minutes. The injury caused lasting memory loss and balance issues for the Queen of Christian Pop.

“I just remember in the fall of 2022 when my world was very quiet. I just remember saying to Vince, ‘What if this is all I get back? What if this is it?’” she said during the NPR podcast.

“Because, to me, it’s like the world is in a conversation, and I am down the hall and in a back bedroom,” Grant added. “This is like my response time.”

The “Good for Me” singer previously discussed her memory loss and traumatic brain injury recovery during a chat with E! News in January 2023.

Grant also touched on her “I Still Believe in You” singer husband’s unwavering support during an interview with People in November 2024.

“Vince is just steady,” she shared. “I don’t know all the ways I lean on him. I’m not even aware of it because it’s second nature.”

Grant continued, “He said, ‘Things happen to people every day, and you just have to take one day at a time, and we’re here, and I love you.’ And that just kind of made every day of the journey okay.”
