  • Kane Cornes doesn’t rate the Boxing Day Test at the MCG

Kane Cornes is one of the AFL’s most polarising identities – and the footy commentator has again turned heads after declaring the Boxing Day cricket Test at the MCG is one of the most overrated events in the world.

And surprisingly, some sports fans agreed with Cornes’s take.

Cornes, 43, compiled a list of his 21 most overrated things in the world for SEN Radio.

He started with exit row seats on planes, before calling out opposition players lining up for rivals’ milestone games in the AFL.

Next was US crime drama television series The Sopranos, as well as people who keep fish as pets, and professional family photos.

Superhero movies, Mad Monday costumes, surprise parties, dress up parties and gender reveal parties also get under Cornes’s skin, as does matcha – a Japanese green tea – and Aussie cricketer Cameron Green.

Now in full swing, Cornes also revealed he can’t stand ice baths, singing happy birthday to adults, Seinfeld, expensive watches, parent-teacher interviews and oysters.

Cornes’ top three most overrated things included the Boxing Day cricket Test at the MCG, lobster – and inexplicably for many Aussies, beer.

‘Hard agree: exit seats on planes, singing happy birthday and the Boxing Day Test,’ responded one fan on X.

‘Boxing Day Test is good when it’s India or England…  but probably overrated against anyone else,’ said another.

Cornes made his AFL debut in 2001 after he was selected as pick 20 by Port Adelaide in the 2000 draft.

The midfielder won a flag in 2004 with the Power, and remained a one-club player, retiring in 2015 after 300 career appearances.

He then briefly worked with the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service before turning his attention to a media career.

Channel Seven star Cornes is also an accomplished distance runner, recording top-30 finishes at marathons in Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
