King Charles responded mischievously to a US comedian’s impersonation of him during the first day of his royal visit.

The trip, the King’s first to the US as monarch and the first state visit of any British monarch since 2007, marks the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Whilst attending a garden party at the White House on Monday (27 April), the King spoke with Matt Friend, a comedian who regularly impersonates many political figures, including Donald Trump.

“I’m going to do my impersonation of you,” he said as he mimicked the royal’s voice. “I’m trying to study you.”

Charles playfully responded “keep trying”, as the crowd burst out into fits of laughter. When Mr Friend said he would carry on practicing, Charles joked: “We’ll award you marks of merit.”
