Xavi Simons was seen firing back at Wolves supporters after the Tottenham star was stretchered off with a knee injury as his side battle to avoid relegation.

Simons suffered the worrying injury in the second half at Molineux, with the Dutchman falling awkwardly close to the Wolves byline.

The 23-year-old was left in agony after suffering the injury, but briefly attempted to play on before ultimately dropping back to the pitch.

Simons was attended to by Tottenham medical staff with a stretcher called, with the creative midfielder eventually wheeled around the pitch after leaving the field.

Footage posted on social media showed Wolves fans abusing the stricken Spurs star as he was brought past.

Simons was seen reacting to the abuse, appearing to fire back ‘f*** you’ multiple times towards one particularly vocal Wolves supporter.

The loss of Simons was a second injury blow of the match for Spurs, who had earlier seen Dominic Solanke limp off with a muscle problem.

Simons enforced exit came just after the hour mark, with the match goalless as Tottenham strived to earn a first win of 2026 and aid their battle to avoid a first top flight relegation since 1977.

One of Tottenham’s substitutes, Joao Palhinha, ultimately scored the winner with the midfielder turning in from close range in the 82nd minute.

The 1-0 scoreline had briefly looked like it would be enough to lift Tottenham out of the bottom three, with West Ham drawing 1-1 at home with Everton.

A stoppage time Callum Wilson goal saw West Ham earn a 2-1 victory, with the Hammers preserving their two point gap over Spurs.

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi, however, insisted his side’s first league win since December could give them renewed belief that they could beat the drop.

De Zerbi admitted to having concerns over Simons’ knee issue, while suggesting Solanke’s injury is ‘not a big problem’.

‘I hope both are not too important problems, especially for Xavi, because Solanke is a muscular injury,’ De Zerbi said.

‘For Xavi, it’s a knee, and when there is a knee it’s a more tough situation.

‘We’re going to see in the next days, Monday or Tuesday.

‘For Solanke, it’s not a big problem. I don’t know how many games we lose him, but I would like to know the real situation of Xavi, because the knee is always different than the muscular injury.

‘Xavi felt pain, but now I spoke with him two minutes ago, he feels better than at the beginning of the injury.’

A lengthy injury to Simons would prove a serious blow to Tottenham’s fight to avoid the drop, with the club already shorn of creativity with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus due to long-term injuries.

Maddison was on the bench for the second successive week, but De Zerbi had admitted pre-match that the England international was still not fit enough to feature.

The knee injury could also leave Simons sweating on being part of the Netherlands’ squad at this summer’s World Cup.
