Yes, Chicago Bears rookie Logan Jones has millions in salary to look forward to after being taken in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday. But in speaking with reporters, the 24-year-old Iowa product was decidedly more excited to be getting a lifetime supply of ketchup.

‘I love it!’ Jones said during a media conference call. ‘I’ll take as much as I can get … Let’s go ketchup!’

The center was the 57th pick of this year’s NFL Draft. And thanks to a new promotion from the good people at Heinz 57, he is entitled to a lifetime supply of the brand’s signature product.

It’s not the first time Heinz has tied promotions to the No. 57.

Back in 1941, with Yankees great Joe DiMaggio in the midst of his record 56-game hitting streak, the brand made a similar arrangement, in which Joltin’ Joe would get $10,000 if he hit safely in a 57th consecutive game. Alas, DiMaggio went hitless in Cleveland on July 17, 1941, although he did hit safely in his next 16 games.

But while Jones should never want for ketchup again, there is one major problem: He’s going to Chicago, where the use of the condiment on the city’s hot dogs is strictly verboten.

Logan Jones will soon be a millionaire, but he’s more excited about his supply of ketchup

There is no official law banning ketchup along the shores of Lake Michigan, but locals have traditionally objected to adding any more sauce to a hot dog that already supports sweet pickle relish, diced onions, tomatoes, peppers and salt.

As one fan remarked online: ‘Being in Chicago and getting lifetime supply of ketchup is an unfortunate combo.’

Others wondered if Jones could find a way to profit off the condiment.

‘What’s stopping him from just becoming a ketchup wholesaler after he retires?’ one fan asked on X.

Meanwhile, many fans urged Jones to take No. 57, which currently belongs to linebacker Jack Sanborn.

Jones is not expected to start for the Bears, who acquired Patriots center Garrett Bradbury in a trade after Drew Dalman’s surprise retirement from the NFL at age 27 last month. However, Jones is an impressive athlete with a sub-5-second 40-yard dash time and two All-Big Ten selections, so he is considered a prospect by NFL standards.

Coincidentally, this year’s NFL Draft was held in Pittsburgh, where the ketchup company is based, alongside the Steelers stadium formerly known as Heinz Field.
