Can Arsenal return to the summit?

So, Arsenal fans… how are we feeling?

It’s certainly been a helter-skelter few weeks for the Gunners, so we won’t blame you if there are some pre-match nerves.

For those who’ve spent the last month or so under a rock, here’s a quick round-up of where things stand.

After eight months away, Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League on Wednesday night with a tense 1-0 win over already-relegated Burnley. Pep Guardiola’s winning machine, with all its inevitability, has cranked into top gear at exactly the right time, ultimately ensuring their hard-fought victory over Arsenal last weekend didn’t go to waste.

Meanwhile for the Gunners, Mikel Arteta’s side have seen their nine-point lead evaporate in just 11 days.

Defeat in the League Cup final to City, followed by an FA Cup fifth-round exit to Championship side Southampton and then a punishing loss against Bournemouth has left them without a domestic win since their 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton before the international break.

While the mood has certainly soured in north London, the season is far from over. There are still five games to go, and a result against Newcastle today would restore Arsenal to the top for another nine days.

So buckle up, readers – it’s sure to be a good one.
