A bitter legal battle has reportedly broken out in Florida amid prosecutors’ attempts to gain access to Tiger Woods’ prescription medication records.

Woods, 50, was detained on March 27 after flipping his SUV while trying to overtake a truck and trailer at high speed in the billionaire enclave of Jupiter Island. Police found two pills in his pocket.

He has been charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He pleaded not guilty and is slated to appear in court on May 5.

According to Golfweek, Florida state prosecutors filed a notice in court on April 7 in an attempt to get a subpoena for Woods’ medication records dating back to January 1.

Woods’ attorney, Douglas Duncan, has hit back and claimed the 15-time major winner has a constitutional right to privacy surrounding his medical records. He also challenged the prosecutors to prove to the judge why those records are relevant to the charges Woods is facing.

‘The defense objects to the issuance of a subpoena and requests the court to conduct a hearing to determine if the prescription records are relevant to the criminal investigation,’ Duncan wrote in response.

If prosecutors are successful in getting a subpoena, Duncan has insisted he wants a protective order regarding how the records are used and released in an effort to maintain his client’s privacy.

When Woods, who blew a clear breathalyzer test but refused to give a urine sample, was talking to police after the incident, he admitted to taking ‘a few pills’ and was found with two white tablets, which were later identified as the opioid hydrocodone.

Earlier this month, the New York Post reported that Woods’s pharmacy was asked by prosecutors to provide detail about every prescription drug he was given.

The Post said prosecutors want to find out if Woods, who has been dating Vanessa Trump for over a year, had any warnings not to drive when he was taking the medication.

They quoted a subpoena from Martin County in Florida requesting the ‘date and time prescription was filled, type of prescription, number of pills in each prescription, the dosage amount, and all special instructions.’

The scandalized golf legend is believed to have jetted to Switzerland earlier this month to seek treatment after vowing to step away from the sport to focus on his health and recovery in the wake of his arrest.

Woods was given approval by a judge to travel outside of the United States for rehab in his latest battle with prescription pills earlier this month. Shortly after, his private jet touched down in Zurich, Switzerland where an ultra-private rehab facility is located.

In a brief statement on the issue, Woods said: ‘I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today.

‘I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

‘I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.’

Police released extraordinary bodycam footage detailing the aftermath of the crash.

In one clip, Woods is heard telling police he had spoken on the phone with President Donald Trump – who he is friends with. Trump awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his first term in office.

Woods was also asked how much he had to drink, to which he replied: ‘None.’

When quizzed whether he is on any medication, he said, ‘I take a few, yes,’ before detailing that he had taken it all earlier that morning.

Woods can be seen sitting on the front of the police car for the sobriety exercises, one of which involved a cop moving her hand from side to side in front of Woods’s face as he attempted to follow it without moving his head. In another, he was asked to touch the end of his nose.

After the tests, the golf legend – who appeared to be hiccuping – was asked to stand up and face the police car. He was then told to put his hands behind his back before being placed in cuffs.

‘I do believe your normal faculties are impaired and you’re under [the influence of] an unknown substance,’ an officer told him. ‘I’m being arrested?’ Woods asked. ‘Yes, sir,’ she responded. The affidavit also claimed Woods was ‘limping and stumbling’ during the tests.
