Luka Doncic has made an emotional return to Slovenia to reunite with his two young daughters while currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, according to reports.

The Los Angeles Lakers star had initially jetted to Spain earlier this week to begin an intensive and specialized rehabilitation program in Madrid.

After undergoing the first phase of his recovery, the Lakers star took a flight from Spain to Ljubljana to spend quality time with Gabriela and Olivia, according to Ekipa.

The reunion provides a rare moment of family joy for the 27-year-old as he continues to navigate an increasingly messy legal split from his childhood sweetheart.

Doncic is currently embroiled in an ugly legal battle with his former fiancee, Anamaria Goltes, over child support and custody arrangements.

The Lakers star recently made the ‘tough decision’ to end his engagement with Goltes, just months after the birth of their second daughter, Olivia.

The split has turned bitter, with Doncic accusing Goltes of filing for child support in California to ‘avail herself’ of the state’s generous payment laws.

Court documents reveal that Doncic has filed a motion to dismiss the petition, arguing that neither Goltes nor the children are actually residents of California.

He asserts that the dispute should be settled in their home nation of Slovenia, where he had already initiated a family law action last month.

In a statement previously provided to ESPN, he said: ‘I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the US during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement.

‘Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.’

The Slovenian’s return home comes as he battles a Grade 2 hamstring strain that has sidelined him for the final stretch of the Lakers’ regular season.

Doncic suffered the injury during an April 5 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, a massive blow to both the Lakers and his own MVP aspirations.

Before the injury, he was leading the league in scoring at 33.5 points per game, while also averaging 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds in a historic year.

In a desperate bid to return for the postseason, Doncic traveled to Europe to seek specialized medical treatment which is not typically available in the United States.

He began his recovery process with stem-cell therapy in Madrid, a move aimed at drastically shortening the usual months-long recovery window.

Slovenian outlet Ekipa confirmed that he took a break from his clinical rehab on Saturday to be with his daughters before starting the next phase of work.

Doncic is expected to fly back to Madrid in the coming days to complete the second phase of his rehabilitation before returning to Los Angeles.
