A former NFL star who now coaches in the United Football League has been booked on a DUI charge in Texas on the eve of a game in Dallas.

Ted Ginn Jr., a former first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins, was arrested on Saturday afternoon in Tarrant County, Texas and later released on $1,000 bond. Details of the allegations have yet to be publicized.

Interestingly, the arrest came a day before Ginn’s 41st birthday.

The Daily Mail has reached out to police for further information.

A former Ohio State star, Ginn returned to Columbus this year to coach the Aviators in the upstart spring football league. The UFL, which owns the team, has released a statement on his arrest.

‘We are aware of an incident involving Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. over the weekend and are in the process of gathering more information,’ UFL president and CEO Russ Brandon told WSYX.

Todd Haley, a former Kansas City Chiefs head coach now serving as the Aviators’ offensive coordinator, will handle head-coaching duties on Sunday. Columbus and Dallas are schedule to kick off at noon ET from Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Dallas is 2-0 on the young season, while Columbus – and Ginn – are both still looking for their first win of 2026.

A former track star known for his blazing speed, Ginn was a standout with the Buckeyes before an up-and-down NFL career.

His best season came in Miami in 2008, when he had 56 catches for 790 yards and two touchdowns. Years later, in Carolina, he had a resurgence and scored 11 times as the Panthers went 15-1 and advanced to the Super Bowl.
