A routine fly ball into the outfield became a horror story when a pair of Detroit Tigers stars collided with each other – leaving one with a serious injury resulting in a trip to the hospital.

During a Thursday afternoon road game against the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota first baseman Josh Bell hit a fly ball into left-center field.

Center fielder Parker Meadows and left fielder Riley Greene were both racing to track down the ball before they both collided head-first at full speed.

Greene was able to make the catch and walked away the better of the two. Meanwhile, Meadows was left lying motionless on the grass in the outfield.

A close-up saw Meadows displaying what appeared to be a ‘fencing posture’ – a common indicator of a concussion. Later, the broadcast appeared to show blood trickling down the left side of his cheek.

He laid down on the grass for several minutes while medical staff attended to his injuries.

Eventually, the Tigers’ training staff and medical personnel helped him get on to his feet before being loaded onto a cart and driving off the field.

Meadows was seen being taken on a stretcher – while remaining fully conscious – with his left arm in a sling.

He was diagnosed with a concussion, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. The blood on his face was the result of him biting the inside of his mouth during the impact with Greene.

Meadows will be held in a Minneapolis hospital for observation and he will likely land some time on the seven-day concussion injured list, according to multiple reports.

Across 12 games and 36 at-bats, Meadows is slashing .250/.308/.333 with nine hits and two RBI.

The Tigers lost the game 3-1, getting swept by Minnesota and falling to 4-9 in the early stages of the MLB season.
