Golf fans are already preparing to rush for one of the Masters’ most prized possessions, amid reports Augusta is set to end sales of gnomes at this year’s event.

Daily Mail Sport previously revealed how gnomes had become one of the hottest properties at the first major of the season.

The craze began when gnomes were introduced in 2016, originally as a gift to grandees in hospitality.

The first edition wore an argyle cardigan, with new editions having been produced each year since, making them an increasingly prized collectable.

Gnomes, which have been available to ticketholders since 2018, are priced at $49.50 (£42).

According to Golf Digest, approximately 1,000 were released each day of the 2025 Masters, leading to fans queuing up in the morning to get their hands on the collectable.

Fans have begun their pursuit of Masters’ gnomes, which can resell for thousands

It is claimed that within an hour of the Masters shop opening at 7am, the daily allocation of gnome has been sold.

This is despite customers being limited to purchasing just one gnome.

The report added there are rumours that the Masters are planning to end the production of the gnomes, amid suggestions the craze has had a negative impact on the general spectator experience.

As a consequence, the price the gnomes are sold at on resale websites is expected to soar even further.

Prices on resale websites are already high, owing to the scarcity and that Augusta National is the only place fans can buy official merchandise.

Sport auctions specialist Ryan Carey told Golf Digest last month he was hoping to sell a gnome from the 2016 Masters, the year they debuted, for $10,000 (£8,600).

A gnome from 2018 is currently priced at at $11,999 (£9,066) on eBay.

The Masters teased the 2026 gnome last month on Instagram.

This year’s version has been seen with an umbrella in one hand, while holding a coffee cup in the other.

The ceramic character also has a green Masters hat, a white and green striped polo shirt, blue gilet and cream trousers.
