Leeds United were left furious after being told that should their FA Cup quarter-final against West Ham go to penalties, they would not be allowed to take the spot-kicks in front of their own fans.

Daniel Farke arrived at the London Stadium only to be informed that any shootout would have to take place at the home end, believed to be due to safety concerns, a decision that angered the Leeds boss.

A coin toss usually decides which end the penalties will be taken but the FA do allow the safety officer and the relevant authorities to decide whether doing so would be a safety risk.

Leeds brought 9,000 fans for their sixth-round clash at West Ham, having already won a shootout against Birmingham City in the earlier stages.

Leeds were left furious after police made an unusual intervention before their FA Cup game

West Ham beat Brentford on penalties in the last round in a shootout that took place in front of the 5,000 travelling Bees supporters.

West Ham sources insisted that such ‘dynamic decisions’ are only officially made once the game has finished and if deemed necessary at the time.

Leeds ended up taking a penalty in front of their travelling fans anyway – as Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it 2-0 from the spot in the second half, after a foul on Brenden Aaronson.
