Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation (BHF), supported by the EFL have reached a major milestone in their transformative Every Minute Matters campaign, with more than 500,000 people having started learning lifesaving CPR though BHF’s free RevivR tool.

The landmark achievement marks a significant moment for the partnership which, in less than two years, has harnessed the power of football to build an ‘army of lifesavers’ in a bid to improve survival rates from cardiac arrest.

Launched at Wembley in May 2024, the campaign has already had an incredible impact – smashing its initial target of 270,000 learners and going on to inspire over 300,000 people to start learning CPR in its first season alone.

Building on that momentum, the campaign has continued to grow at scale, uniting all 72 EFL clubs, players and fans behind a shared goal to equip everyone with the knowledge and skill of how to act in an emergency.

There are more than 40,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year, and tragically, fewer than one in 10 survive. Learning CPR can more than double someone’s chance of survival.

The British Heart Foundation’s RevivR programme manager Lizzie Moscardini said hitting the half a million milestone is an extraordinary achievement.

“Together we’ve inspired over 500,000 people to engage with CPR,” she said. It shows what’s possible when people up and down the country come together to help save lives.

“Learning CPR can mean the difference between life and death, and our free RevivR tool can give people the confidence to act in an emergency in just 15 minutes.”

Every Minute Matters ambassador Tom Lockyer also highlighted the campaign’s success.

“As someone who owes my life to the quick actions of others, this milestone means everything,” he said.

“To see over 500,000 people step up and learn CPR is incredible, that’s half a million people who could be there for someone in their most critical moment.

“I am so grateful to each and every fan that has stepped up and learnt CPR as part of this game-changing campaign over the past two seasons.

“But this isn’t the finish line. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, meaning it’s vitally important that everyone feels that they have the confidence and skills to perform when every minute really matters. It takes just 15 minutes to learn, but it could save the life of someone you love.”

For those interested in getting involved in the campaign, fans can show their support and learn CPR in just 15-minutes by searching BHF RevivR and/or visiting revivr.bhf.org.uk.
