Former Ohio State football star Marcus Williamson could be locked up for four decades after pleading guilty to robbing banks.

The 27-year-old, who played defensive back for the Buckeyes between 2017 and 2021, was accused of stealing around $22,000 from a number of different banks between March and April 2024.

As reported by the Columbus Dispatch, it is alleged that Williamson would hand a note to the bank teller, demanding money in denominations of $20, $50 and $100.

He would wear latex gloves while committing the crimes and prosecutors said that during five robberies in 2024, Williamson claimed – or implied – he had a gun.

The former college football star was arrested after leaving First Merchants Bank in Columbus, Ohio, on April 24, 2024.

Police officers, who were reportedly already looking into the 27-year-old, found him carrying money from the bank.

This week, Williamson pleaded guilty to nine counts of robbery, five of which were second-degree felonies and four of which were third-degree felonies.

The 27-year-old was initially facing 17 counts of robbery, six counts of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft.

He is reportedly being held at the Franklin County Jail in Columbus ahead of his sentencing on June 25. Williamson’s possible punishments range from probation to more than 40 years in prison.

During his college career, Williamson won four Big Ten titles across 46 games.

As reported by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, another former Ohio State football star was sentenced to at least five years in prison for the 2025 car crash that killed a 24-year-old man in Dublin, Ohio.

Kirk Barton, a Buckeyes offensive lineman from 2003 until 2007, initially pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI) after the June 21 crash that killed Ethan Perry.

But on Wednesday, the 41-year-old Barton pleaded guilty to a single count of aggravated vehicular homicide with the other charges being dropped.

As a result, he has been sentenced to between five and seven and a half years in prison. The judge in the case also ordered Barton’s license to be suspended permanently.
