Wrestling legend Dennis ‘Loverboy’ Condrey has died at the age of 74, according to fellow wrestler Dax Harwood, as tributes to the former tag team star pour in.

Condrey famously formed one half of the greatest tag teams of all time, The Midnight Express, during the 1980s with Bobby Eaton, who passed away in 2021.

Close friend Harwood announced the tragic news on Friday, sharing an emotional tribute to the former pro wrestler on Instagram. No cause of death has been announced.

‘I loved that man and I’ll do everything I possibly can over the next few years I have left in the business, to keep his and the Midnight Express’ spirit alive. They paved this road so all other tag teams could walk easier,’ Harwood touchingly penned.

Harwood went on to reflect on his close bond with Condrey, revealing that they would text after matches. He added that Condrey would share advice, helping Harwood identify areas of his wrestling that he could improve.

‘That is something that’ll never be lost on me. One of my heroes loved me enough to take time out of his day to let me know how proud he was of me,’ Harwood wrote.

He added: ‘I can tell you with absolute honesty and sincerity, I’ve never seen a better Tag Team than Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton.’

Harwood shared that Condrey’s wife, Theresa, had granted him permission to set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds to support the family through funeral expenses.

Condrey gained prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, primarily as a founding member of The Midnight Express.

He made his professional wrestling debut in 1973 and went on to compete under a number of different promotions throughout his career, including the AWA and NWA.

He ultimately retired from in-ring competition in 2011, bringing to an end a career that spanned nearly four decades.
