Hawthorn forward Dylan Moore has expressed regret over the ‘foolish’ mistake that led to him and teammate Connor Macdonald being arrested in the United States late in 2025.
The pair spent a night in an Arizona jail last November for alleged trespassing and still have pending court dates in the US later this year.
Moore, who lost his title as Hawks vice-captain after the off-season incident, said another charge relating to drug paraphernalia had been dismissed.
Details of the pair’s arrest emerged publicly just three days out from the Hawks’ Round 1 clash with traditional rivals Essendon.
‘It’s something that I’ll always regret,’ Moore told Channel Seven in an interview aired on Tuesday night.
‘A foolish mistake has led to a night in a jail cell and many regrets.

‘I was in the US. I was out having a few drinks and made a foolish mistake.
‘I decided to get on a scissor-lift and next thing I know, the cops are there telling me to get off.
‘I got off, and the next thing I know, I’m in police custody.’
A scissor lift is typically seen on a construction site.
The incident occurred while Hawthorn players were away from the club during a pre-season training period.
Moore, who was an All-Australian in 2024, was overlooked for a role in the Hawks’ leadership group under co-captains James Sicily and Jai Newcombe this season.
‘I was vice-captain at the time and I should recognise situations like that and know the consequences and the risks,’ the 26-year-old said.
‘Having Connor there with me, I should, as an older player and vice-captain at the time, I should know better.

‘I feel like I’ve let the leaders down and Connor down.’
Moore confirmed that following the incident, he made immediate contact with the Hawks.
‘They were firm, but so supportive to me. The communication over the last four months has been really steady,’ he said.
The pair were fined by Hawthorn and have undergone alcohol counselling.
They will also complete community service, but are not facing further sanction from the AFL.
‘I think this is behind me now,’ Moore said.
‘I just have to come into the football club and be the best person I can be and be the best mate, partner and best family member.
‘It’s been so tough, but I’ve felt so supported at the football club.’
Moore has been listed to appear in court in July this year, while Macdonald is listed for August.
Both stars featured in Hawthorn’s opening-round defeat to GWS and are set to line up against Essendon at the MCG on Friday night.
