Dancing with the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy was forced to miss a stop on the show’s ongoing live tour due to vertigo.
The dancer posted a video on Instagram Sunday evening from a hospital bed, where he explained that he would not be performing at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater in Peoria, Illinois.
“What’s up friends. So yeah, my bad. I ended up out here in Peoria, but the doc was cool — shout out to Claire, our [physical therapist] on tour, and everyone on our tour for rallying,” the clip began. “I’ve just been having vertigo for the past couple of days and had it yesterday.”
Chmerkovskiy said he was able to push through a previous show with vertigo, but that traveling on the tour bus might have made his symptoms worse.
According to the Mayo Clinic, vertigo, also called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, causes sudden feelings of spinning or dizziness. The feeling is created by crystals in the otolith organs inside a person’s ear. The otolith organs detect head movement to maintain balance, but when the crystals move out of place, it can create mobility issues.
“That little crystal in your equilibrium — again, I’m learning a lot — once it goes out, it’s really hard to get it back in,” he said. “So, I’m just spinning everywhere. And so, on the bus when it’s moving, and I woke up, and I couldn’t get myself together.”
He concluded by telling his followers that he hopes to be back performing for Tuesday’s show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“Sorry my friends… small hiccup,” Chmerkovskiy captioned his social media posts.
Many took to the comments to wish the dancer a speedy recovery, including several of his fellow cast members from the show.
This past season on the ABC competition series, Chmerkovskiy was partnered with influencer Alix Earle. The pair finished in second behind Witney Carson and her celebrity partner, Robert Irwin.

While Earle will be participating in a few tour dates, other celebrities from the past season that will be on tour are Andy Richter, Elaine Hendrix, Dylan Efron and Jordan Chiles.
