Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman and his wife Chelsea have announced they are expecting their fourth child.

The first baseman, a three-time World Series champion, and the model already share sons Fredrick Charles II, Brandon John and Maximus Turner.

The couple, who got married in 2014, welcomed their eldest child in 2016 and then turned to surrogacy after struggling to get pregnant again.

But days before the crucial embryo transfer, Chelsea discovered she was pregnant and the family then grew from three to five within a matter of months.

Now they have announced their family will be growing again after turning to a surrogate once more.

Chelsea posted on Instagram on Sunday night: ‘Worth the wait. Baby #4 is on the way and our hearts are already so full.

‘We are incredibly grateful for the amazing woman helping bring our baby into our lives, and we’re choosing to honor her privacy as we walk this chapter. What do you think… brother or sister?’

Their five-year-old son Max was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that left him with full-body paralysis, in 2024.

He spent time in the pediatric ICU and Chelsea provided regular updates to the public as the family dealt with significant challenges behind closed doors.

Eventually, Max regained mobility and reflexes and ahead of the 2025 MLB season Chelsea said he is ’80 per cent recovered’.

It is unclear whether Max’s health is among the reasons for Freeman’s recent withdrawal from the World Baseball Classic, but it would be no surprise to see him want to spend more time with his family ahead of a grueling 162-game Dodgers season in 2026.

Max’s heartbreaking diagnosis is not the only family health struggles Freeman has endured, after his mother tragically passed away from cancer when he was 10, six years after she was first diagnosed with melanoma and had initially beat it.

Freeman, meanwhile, has also been struggling with injury in recent weeks – another potential factor in his decision to pull out.
