Wuthering Heights prompted a wave of tearful reactions after its release in UK and US cinemas over the Valentine’s Day weekend.

The new adaptation, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, opened on 13 February 2026 and quickly sparked an outpouring of emotion online. Viewers posted self-filmed videos weeping as the credits rolled, with one describing the experience as having “literally crushed my soul.”

Although early reviews were mixed, with some critics arguing that the film diverges from Emily Brontë’s original novel, audiences appeared deeply moved by its emotional intensity, many leaving cinemas visibly shaken by the tragic love story.
