  • Aussie finished second overall – and still picks up more millions of dollarsĀ

Aussie golf star Min Woo Lee has been left heartbroken after having $5million ripped from his grasp in the final round of PGA Tour pro-am event at Pebble Beach.

High-rated American Colin Morikawa shattered Lee’s dreams, by nailing an epic approach shot in windy conditions to claim victory.

The Aussie went to the clubhouse as the scoreboard leader after birdying the 17th and 18th holes of his final round.

But Morikawa wasn’t to be denied – and claimed his seventh PGA Tour win.

The American had been leading by a single shot until he bogeying the 17th hole which levelled the scores.

On the par-5 18th hole, Morikawa had to deal with a vicious crosswind, before hitting an incredible shot.

He smashed his iron well left and over the water, which then allowed the wind to bring the ball back over the green and land next to the putting surface.

Vision of Lee’s reaction to the unprecedented shot was caught on cameras.

The Aussie was impressed but equally deflated given the stroke essentially set Morikawa up to steal victory.

Morikawa then ended up sunking his birdie putt to cement victory, before becoming emotional while embracing with his partner.

The result has seen Lee miss out on the more than $5million prize money for winning the tournament.

Fortunately, he hasn’t gone away from the event empty handed.

He has pocketed more than $3million for finishing tied second.

If Lee had claimed victory at Pebble Beach, the win would have become his second on the PGA Tour.
