Vitor Pereira is a contender to take charge of Nottingham Forest after the dismissal of Sean Dyche in the early hours of Thursday.

Dyche was sacked hours after Forest could only draw 0-0 with the Premier League’s bottom club Wolves – who themselves sacked Pereira last November after a dreadful start to the season.

With Forest now looking for a fourth manager of the season following the departures of Nuno Espírito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Dyche, Daily Mail Sport understands they are interested in speaking to Pereira, though there would be several hurdles still to clear. Daily Mail Sport reported on Wednesday night that Pereira was in the frame.

When Pereira took charge of Wolves in December 2024, they looked to be heading for the Championship. But he did an excellent job initially and led them to a comfortable survival.

If talks with Forest progress well, Pereira would be asked to make a similar impact at the City Ground, while also leading Forest deeper into the Europa League. Their next game is at Fenerbahce on Thursday in the first leg of the Europa League play-off round.

The goalless draw with Wolves left Forest only three points above the relegation zone. Their next league game is at Brighton on March 1.

Dyche seemed resigned to his fate when he spoke after the Wolves game.

He said: ‘If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him, and that’s the way football is now, that’s just the reality of it.

‘But I’m not questioning the owner here. He’s been absolutely fair with me from the beginning to the end, and I’ve been fair with him and told him the truth every step of the way.

‘That’s the way it goes. I’m a realist. I understand, you know, the noise here has changed significantly since the last few games.

‘Demand is high. That’s changed enormously in probably the last probably two years. Demand is getting higher and higher. Expectation immediately grows.

‘So if people will change it, and the owner wants to change, that is entirely up to him, but there’s no lack of respect for me to the owner on how he’s been.’
