Marcus Neill, the son of Socceroos legend Lucas Neill, is continuing to put football fans on notice with stunning performances in an U21 Premier League competition.

The 17-year-old has now scored another goal, in what was his 53rd match for Sunderland, across all major competitions.

Since making the move from Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, the teenager has stunned fans with his displays.

Footage of his impressive finish, which led Sunderland’s U21 side to a 2-0 win over Brighton, has since been posted to social media.

It has led to opinions claiming Marcus, could be a better player than his famous father, who played 510 senior matches and 96 internationals for Australia – 61 as captain.

The teen is now playing regularly for Sunderland’s U21 side in Premier League 2, after graduating from the U18 Premier League through sheer weight of goals.

This was his first goal at U21 level this season, but his second in total.

Marcus, scored the winner in a 2-1 win over Arsenal in December 2024, and became the club’s second youngest goal scorer in the U21 division.

Last season, he scored 16 goals and provided six assists in just 22 matches in the U18 Premier League.

He then made the move up divisions for a new challenge.

Marcus’ father Lucas, took to the pitch on 96 occasions for the Socceroos.

He spent 15 years playing across England’s major competitions, and was a member of teams for Millwall, Blackburn and Everton.

Lucas Neil also spent a further two seasons in both Turkey, and the UAE respectively.

Marcus hopes to keep improving and impressing, before a potential opportunity arises for the Socceroos in the coming years.
