AFL star Bailey Smith won’t be able to drive for the next few months after he was caught doing 20km/h over the speed limit during Victoria’s bushfires.

Geelong midfielder Smith will likely lose his driver’s licence after he was caught going 125km/h near his house in Surf Coast this week.

Smith had been worrying about the animals living on his 5.8 hectare home in Bellbrae, on the Great Ocean Road, when he was caught.

Now with the latest demerit points racked up by this recent speeding fine, Smith is believed to have exceeded the limit and is now without a licence.

It means Smith will likely be off the road for a minimum of three months.

A number of controversies have hit the football star in recent months after he was found to have engaged in homophobia along with swearing at a female photographer last season.

Mitch Brown, the first AFL player to come out as bisexual, branded Smith a ‘loser’ after the Geelong star’s Brokeback Mountain social media post during Mad Monday celebrations in 2025.

Smith, at the time, had posted a photo of himself embracing with another man beneath a caption referencing Brokeback Mountain which Brown had taken offence towards.

The inappropriate image and caption featured veteran football reporter Caroline Wilson.

‘This is what granny does to ya,’ Smith wrote.

‘Or Brokeback Mountain, depends how ya look at it.’

Future Mad Monday celebrations were cancelled after the controversy erupted.

Earlier that same year, Smith also cussed out a female Geelong Advertiser photographer after he told her that she did ‘f***g s**t job’ while he was competing.

Smith clashed with the photographer when he was pictured giving the middle finger to the camera while receiving treatment on his back.

He told her to ‘stop trying to bait me’ and said his treatment was a ‘private moment’, despite the fact the training was made open to the media.

The incident happened in front of journalists, photographers and camera operators.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said he has spoken to Smith over this off-field behaviour and social media content.

The AFL star, 25, set hearts aflutter back in July when he announced he had joined Tinder, before partnering with ‘former flame’ Tammy Hembrow, 31, in December to promote the popular dating app.

Last month, the bachelor was spotted on what appeared to be a beach date in Manly, Sydney, with a mystery blonde.

On Sunday, the Daily Mail caught him flying into Melbourne accompanied by the same blonde.

True to form, Smith – who is preparing for the 2026 AFL season following a bruising grand final defeat to the Brisbane Lions in November – looked less than thrilled to see our snapper, offering a one‑fingered salute once he noticed the camera.
