Livingston boss David Martindale says the club have contacted the SFA over an an alleged racism comment directed at striker Jeremy Bokila during last Saturday’s match with Aberdeen.

Former Democratic Republic of Congo player Bokila, 37, was sent off for his part in an off-the-ball incident during the 6-2 defeat at Pittodrie.

After the game, manager Martindale revealed that the player was in tears in the dressing room and that he would ‘need to go and try and get to the bottom of’ the situation.

Aberdeen subsequently released a statement saying: ‘The club is aware of an allegation that racist language was used during today’s match with Livingston FC at Pittodrie. The player concerned has been informed of the allegation and vehemently denies it.

‘Aberdeen FC condemns any and all forms of discrimination and we will co-operate fully with all relevant authorities during any investigation.

‘While this process is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further.’

Asked at a press conference on Wednesday if he was able to provide an update on the situation, Martindale said: ‘I am not, unfortunately. There was an incident, I think the incident is now with the SFA, and that’s really all I can enlighten you with as far as I know.’

Martindale added: ‘I think Bokila has been speaking to the club secretary. I just know that the incident has been referred to the Scottish Football Association.

‘This is the beauty of the club now, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, it’s not me having to deal with this now, we’ve got people in the building – Scott Struthers, Dave Black, John Ward. I know there has been dialogue, but I’ve been kept away from that dialogue.’
