Bayern Munich have confirmed they have opened negotiations over a new contract for England captain Harry Kane.

Kane has scored 34 times in 30 appearances for the Bundesliga giants this season but speculation around his future has ramped up over a potential return to the Premier League.

The 32-year-old joined Bayern from Tottenham in August 2023 and has a release clause worth £54million this month before his contract expires next summer.

However, club’s sporting director Max Eberl told Sky Germany that the club are looking to tie their talisman down.

‘We are in talks with Harry,’ Eberl confirmed on Monday.

It comes just months after Kane distanced himself from a potential return to England.

‘No, [I’m not considering coming back] at the moment. I’m really happy here. I have two years left on my contract,’ he said in September.

‘I’m enjoying every moment. [A return] is not in my thought process. I’m enjoying it with the team, with the coach, and hopefully we continue to be successful.’

Kane is the Premier League’s second-top scorer of all time with 213 goals. He is 47 behind Alan Shearer and many have speculated whether the striker would want to come back and beat the record.

He made his first appearance for the Spurs first team in April 2014 spent more than nine years in north London, during which time he was subject to numerous bids from Pep Guardiola’s Man City.

Kane failed to win a trophy at Spurs but won last season’s Bundesliga in Munich – under the management of Vincent Kompany – as well as the German Super Cup in August 2025.
