Learn how to handle subject access requests

Thousands of small businesses contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) every year for help with data protection issues. Subject access requests (SARs) are one of the most common topics.

On 28 January 2026, to mark Data Protection Day 2026, the ICO will be hosting a free webinar with the Federation of Small Businesses to help you understand how to manage SARs effectively and build a system that works for you and your customers.

The session will offer practical advice and examples on

  • what a subject access request can look like
  • when you can ask for clarification, and how this affects timeframes
  • what counts as an excessive request and what you can do
  • how to prepare for SARs in advance

The webinar is open to small business owners, sole traders and anyone handling data protection in a small business. It’s ideal if you want to improve your confidence in managing requests. You will also get direct links to the ICO’s resources and an opportunity to put your questions to the regulator.

Register now for this free session.
