Dave Portnoy has taken aim at Tony Romo for the second time in the space of a week after accusing the NFL analyst of being ‘totally lost’ during Saturday’s Bills-Broncos playoff game.
Six days after outrageously alleging that he was ‘on drugs’ while calling the Bills’ Wild Card win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Portnoy led the criticism of Romo on social media once again as Buffalo locked horns with Denver in the Divisional round.
The Barstool Sports founder called him out for a mishap on commentary for CBS during Saturday’s game, after Romo said that quarterback Josh Allen had secured a first down for his team when the ruling on the field was actually a 4th-and-1.
‘Romo and [Jim] Nantz were so confusing during that segment they confused me,’ Portnoy wrote on X. ‘It was 4th and 1 and then they went for it on sneak. Had nothing to do with a fumble. Then Romo made it sound like the 1st down carry to [James] Cook was risky. They were totally lost’.
He then shared footage of the commentary gaffe and added in a separate post: ‘I hate to keep piling on Romo but this was 2 minutes of the most confusing worst announcing in the history of football. Arent there spotters in the booth to tell them what is going on?’

Portnoy was not alone in ripping into Romo, with a host of fans also left unimpressed by his calling of the game.
Several viewers also noticed that the former-quarterback-turned-commentator accidentally named Allen as Kansas City Chiefs rival Patrick Mahomes at one stage of Saturday’s game.
‘Did you here him explain the Allen scramble and call him Mahomes,’ one user asked Portnoy.
‘He’s the worst announcer in the NFL and it’s really not close,’ another claimed.
‘Romo is the most overrated announcer in football. He SUCKS,’ said a third.
A fourth put: ‘It’s honestly uncomfortable to watch/listen’.
While one simply asked: ‘What the actual f*** is Tony Romo talking about??’
Romo has gained notoriety throughout the season for some strange calls in his position as an analyst for CBS, but the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback seems to have saved his weirdest for the postseason.
Romo appeared to get confused after incorrectly stating that Josh Allen secured a first down
The former-quarterback-turned-commentator has drawn criticism from fans this season
In the first quarter of last week’s Bills-Jaguars game, when Buffalo blocked a punt he appeared to let out a weird groan that evolved into an awkwardly long chuckle as he watched the replay.
Then, with 2:40 left on the clock in the first quarter, Romo let out a cringey maniacal laugh when the Jags managed to clinch a crucial first down.
Yet according to a recent report from Front Office Sports, CBS bosses are not only standing by Romo, they also consider the backlash against him part of ‘a slanted media narrative’ that they are ‘seething’ at.
The report says that Romo has heard nothing from CBS bosses in New York about the level of his work, nor from CBS president David Berson.
An unnamed source was also quoted as saying the criticism against him was ‘much ado about nothing’.
