John Harbaugh and the New York Giants have finally agreed a deal for the former Baltimore Ravens head coach to take over the organization.

Harbaugh was the runaway favorite to go to the Giants but talks were starting to drag this week over an agreement on the finer details.

But on Saturday afternoon, the Super Bowl winner with the Ravens finalized his move to New York, ushering in an exciting new era at the Giants.

It’s a five-year deal for Harbaugh worth around $100million, depending on the success of the team under his leadership.

‘This is the New York Giants,’ Harbaugh, 63, told ESPN. ‘I’m proud and honored to the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families.

‘But most of all, I can’t wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together.’

John Harbaugh has made a speedy return to the NFL, taking over at the New York Giants

Harbaugh inherits an exciting young core at the center of the Giants roster, spearheaded by 22-year-old quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Running back Cam Skattebo and wide receiver Malik Nabers are also outstanding options in the offense, while pass rusher Abdul Carter was the team’s pick at No. 3 in the 2025 NFL Draft.

This time around, Harbaugh and the Giants have the fifth pick in the first round after a 4-13 season that cost predecessor Brain Daboll his job back in November.

The news will likely have the approval from the president, too. As soon as Harbaugh left the Ravens, earlier in January, Donald Trump was quick to tell the Giants to hire him.

‘The New York Football Giants should hire, without question, John Harbaugh – And John, a great guy, should TAKE THE JOB!!!’ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

And after Harbaugh first departed the Ravens, Trump posted: ‘HIRE JOHN HARBAUGH, FAST. HE, AND HIS BROTHER, ARE TOTAL WINNERS!!!’

His brother is the Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh – his team went out of the playoffs last weekend at the hands of New England Patriots.

Other NFL teams agreed with Trump – both the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans were interested in hiring Harbaugh but it is the Giants who have emerged successful from the race for his signature.

There are several other head coaching vacancies available, all of which Harbaugh would have been a leading contender for if he had been interested.

The Ravens made the playoffs 12 times during 18 seasons with Harbaugh in charge and won the Super Bowl in the 2012 season, a year after the Giants’ most recent championship.

In his last season in Baltimore, Harbaugh’s team missed the playoffs after losing their final regular season game against Pittsburgh Steelers.
