  • Ash Barty looked down and out in Grand Slam semi-final
  • Composed herself, Aussie later won 2019 French Open

A world-renowned mindset guru has revealed the two simple words that Aussie tennis legend Ash Barty applied on court to win her first career major.

The year was 2019 and Barty was facing US star Amanda Anisimova in the semi-finals of the French Open.

Seeded eighth, Barty threw away the first set after losing a tiebreaker.

Tennis fans were in disbelief as Barty led 5-0, with nerves clearly getting the better of the Queenslander.

When trailing Anisimova 3-0 in the second set, Barty looked down and out.

But she spotted the American second-guessing herself – and pounced.

Ben Crowe, a world-renowned mindset guru (pictured right) has revealed the two simple words that Aussie tennis legend Ash Barty applied on court to win her first Grand Slam title

After her maiden Grand Slam triumph at Roland Garros in 2019, Barty went onto win Wimbledon (2021) and the Australian Open (2022)

Barty, who worked closely with leadership coach Ben Crowe during her professional career – uttered to herself as she served: ‘I decide.’

It proved to be an astute move.

‘Her perspective pivoted from hunted to hunter, from victim to victor, all because she remembered one simple truth: she had a choice,’ Crowe, who has also worked closely with Dylan Alcott, surfer Stephanie Gilmore and the Richmond AFL team, told News Corp.

Barty then powered to victory on the clay, and days later lifted the trophy at Roland Garros after beating Markéta Vondroušová in a one-sided final.

It was Barty’s maiden Grand Slam, before she went on to win Wimbledon (2021) and the Australian Open (2022).

The former world no.1 then stunned the tennis world after retiring in 2022 at the age of 25.

Now a mother of two, Barty is relishing parenthood with her husband Gary Kissick.

‘We are very grateful that we’ve got two happy and healthy kids that have brought so much joy and chaos into our lives,’ the 29-year-old said.

‘It’s about appreciating the little things each and every day. I’m very lucky.’
