A pair of moms have been banned from attending their kids’ Catholic Youth basketball games after being involved in an on-court brawl last month.

The violent skirmish broke out during a 6th-grade game between St Teresa and Saint Clare on December 20th in Staten Island, New York, according to SILive.

Video footage from the day, obtained by the Staten Island Advance, showed two moms engaging in a heated exchange which quickly escalated into a physical affair.

The women were seen shoving one-another and throwing punches as the tensions spilled over, before a number of other spectators attempted to diffuse the situation.

Despite their best attempts, the ugly scenes continued as the two women remained brawling. Once they were finally separated, another fight broke out beside them.

According to CYO County Director Michael Neely, the two women were parents of kids who were playing in the game and others involved were also family members.

In a statement, Neely confirmed that the women and the family members have all been banned indefinitely from attending CYO games.

‘Two families got involved and, in the end, their families have been banned from CYO indefinitely,’ Neely said.

Meanwhile, Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella said: ‘The CYO is no longer gonna tolerate fights that just ruin it and crush it for kids,’

‘There were kids on the court crying because they didn’t know what was happening, the game had to come to an end and these kids suffer.

‘The mission was about the kids. The mission was about teaching them responsibility. The mission was about them having a good time: the kids.

‘The kids are the center of this universe here. And every once in a while some spectators get out of control and ruin it for the kids and ruin it for everybody else.’

Fonsella also confirmed a new rule that will see spectators be handed a one-year ban for any disruptive behavior that occurs at a CYO basketball game.
