Phil Foden is thought to have lost almost half of his market value over the course of 2025 according to data gathered by Transfermarkt – despite the Manchester City star being in the thick of a return to form.

The 2023-24 PFA Player of the Year winner saw his fortunes waver in line with his club’s choppy form during the last campaign, netting just 13 goals in all his 49 appearances across all competitions.

But this season, Foden has been enjoying an uptick in his performances as Pep Guardiola’s players again challenge for the Premier League title.

The 25-year-old has not only battled his way back into Thomas Tuchel’s England set-up ahead of next year’s World Cup, but has netted 10 goals and registered a further four assists for this club this term.

But although his value may yet rise again, his market price is believed to have suffered a knock since this time last year, dropping by £52million (€60m) to £69.7m (€80m).

The decrease in his potential value – academy graduate Foden is contracted with Man City until June 2027 – is the highest across Europe’s top leagues.

But the Stockport native is far from the only Premier League star to feature among the top 10 most devalued footballers over the last calendar year.

Foden has only narrowly beaten his team-mate Rodri to the top spot, with the Spaniard knocking an estimated £47.9m (€55m) off his value, making his updated price tag £65.3m (€75m).

Unlike Foden however, Rodri spent a large portion of the 2024-25 season recovering from injury, after the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner suffered a serious knee injury in September last year.

Rodri has since struggled upon returning to the pitch, most recently being kept out by persistent hamstring trouble this term.

Guardiola has only started Rodri four times in the Premier League during the campaign, and despite hinting that he could see action over the weekend against Nottingham Forest, the midfielder was kept on the bench for the duration of the 2-1 win.

Another Man City Treble-winner to have suffered from their uneven 2024-25 season was Bernardo Silva, whose value dropped by approximately £28.7m (€33m) to make him worth £23.5m (€27m).

But Man City’s title rivals Arsenal have not escaped a devaluation in their own ranks, with captain Martin Odegaard seeing his own value drop.

Like Rodri, Odegaard has since 2025 speckled with injury, perhaps accounting for his £30.5m (€35m) drop, to place his value near £65.8m (€75m).

Top 10 most devalued footballers over 2025

1. Phil Foden (Man City) – £52m drop to £65.3m

2. Rodri (Man City) – £47.9m drop to £65.3m

3. Vinicius Jnr (Real Madrid) – £43.5m drop to £130.7m

4. Gavi (Barcelona) – £34.8m drop to £34.8m

5. Rodrygo (Real Madrid) – £34.8m drop to £52.2m

6. Martin Odegaard (Arsenal) – £30.5m drop to £65.8m

7. Bernardo Silva (Man City) – £28.7m drop to £23.5m

8. Florian Wirtz (Liverpool) – £26m drop to £95.9m

9. Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid) – £26m drop to £43.5m

10. Ronaldo Araujo (Barcelona) – £26m drop to £21.7m

Rounding out the Premier League cohort to have made it into the top 10 is Liverpool’s blockbuster summer signing Florian Wirtz, whose struggles since moving to the Premier League from Bayer Leverkusen have been well-documented.

Valued at an estimated £122m (€140m) at the end of December last year, Wirtz moved to Merseyside in a £116m move in August, breaking the British transfer record at the time before his sale was one-upped by new team-mate Alexander Isak.

But Transfermarkt believe that £26m (€30m) has been wiped off his value in a calendar year, putting his price on the market today at an estimated £95.9m (€110m).

Other stars of 2024 who have seen their value take a knock amid on-pitch woes include Vinicius Jnr, previously Real Madrid’s brightest star and a perceived shoo-in for the Ballon d’Or of last year.

After missing out to Rodri however, Vinicius’ form took a tumble, and amid turmoil at the Bernabeu following the appointment of new head coach Xabi Alonso, the Brazil international has scored just five goals in all competitions this term.

Vinicius has subsequently endured a drop in value of approximately £43.5m (€50m), the third-highest drop of 2025, taking his overall market value to a still-punchy £130.7m (€150m).

Two of his Real Madrid team-mates have also suffered a drop in their market value over the course of a year, with Rodrygo fifth in the rankings following a decrease of £34.8m (€40m) and Eduardo Camavinga ninth, after a drop by £26m (€30m).

Perhaps not coincidentally, both Rodrygo and Camavinga have not been flourishing under Alonso, much like Vinicius Jnr.
