Police have confirmed that a woman in her 20s from the Faversham area of Kent has died on Christmas Eve following a crash on the M2.

The London-bound carriageway remains shut between junctions five (for Maidstone) and four (for Gillingham) after a black Volkswagen T-Roc collided with the central reservation barrier before overturning.

Kent Police said officers were called at 12:50 GMT on Christmas Eve to the “serious collision” near the Medway services.

The force is now appealing for witnesses, including motorists with dashcam footage, to come forward.

A police spokesperson said there were no passengers in the car and no other vehicles were involved.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said three fire engines attended and the woman’s next of kin have been informed.

A diversion is in place using the A249, M20 and A228.
