The man and the woman, both 24, died following the incident near the village of Clola

Two people have died in crash involving two cars on a road in Aberdeenshire.

A 24-year-old man, the passenger in a black Vauxhall Corsa, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A952 between Toll of Birness and Mintlaw near the village of Clola at about 19:35 on Saturday.

The driver, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but later died following the collision which also involved a grey Land Rover Evoque.

A 62-year-old man, a 61-year-old woman and two boys aged seven and five who were in the Evoque were also taken to hospital after the crash.

Police closed the road for several hours while an initial investigation was carried out.

Officers have appealed for anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the crash with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Sgt Pete Henderson said: “Our thoughts are with the families of those who died and everyone affected by this incident.”
