Jadon Sancho warned he has to ‘get his attitude right’ following double substitution for Aston Villa – as Man United outcast struggles on third loan

Jadon Sancho has been warned by Alan Shearer he has to ‘get his attitude right’ following a disappointing start to his loan move at Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old winger has struggled to find his form ever since his £73million move to Manchester United in 2021. He has been sidelined by two United managers in Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim which has led to three loan moves away: first to former club Borussia Dortmund, then to Chelsea, and now Villa.

Sancho, who is yet to start a league game for his new team, slumped to a new low last weekend when he was subbed on and then later hooked by Unai Emery during Villa’s 1-0 victory against Manchester City.

‘I don’t know what’s going on with Jadon Sancho in terms of his training or his life, I’m not party to that,’ Shearer told Betfair.

‘But he’s got an opportunity at Villa now, and if it doesn’t work out here, people will look back and say, “Hang on, you’ve been given so many opportunities.” You can only have so many.’

Sancho has started twice in the Europa League but was otherwise left on the bench once again by Unai Emery against Manchester City before replacing the injured Emi Buendia after 29 minutes.

Brought on to play his preferred left wing position, he struggled to get into the game, and his only real impact came moments after half-time when he forced a save out of Gigi Donnarumma from close range.

And on 74 minutes – less than an hour after he was introduced – Emery decided he had seen enough, and he was replaced by Ross Barkley.

After initially snubbing Barkley for a high-five on his way off, Sancho gave Emery the cold shoulder as the Villa boss attempted to talk to him.

‘I guess it is humiliating when you’re put on as a sub and then taken off again,’ Sherarer added.

‘It hasn’t worked out yet for him, but there’s only one way around it and that is hard work. Get your head down, get your attitude right, and if you do that, things will turn around.’

Emery later insisted that he had taken Sancho off for fitness reasons, but regardless the Englishman will be eager to turn his form around if he is to make it into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad in time for next summer’s World Cup.

A once guaranteed starter, the chances of this happening are becoming increasingly remote.
