Veteran Norwich City defender Shane Duffy has taken aim at his own fans with a foul-mouthed outburst amid the club’s horror start to the Championship season.
Duffy, 33, was not included in Liam Manning’s squad for Tuesday night’s defeat by Derby, leaving the Canaries in the drop zone on eight points from 11 league games.
But the Irishman’s lack of action on the pitch didn’t stop him from taking to social media, with the defender sharing his thoughts on the result and the club’s current predicament.
‘Ok I’m annoyed. I get it, I actually get it,’ he said.
‘The abuse towards me I understand it! I promise you one thing this is heat [sic] changing room I’ve been involved in.’
He then responded to a now-deleted post from a fan criticising the team’s manager, Manning, saying: ‘Your [sic] a k**b btw and I know your mates.’

That post has racked up views totalling more than 250,000. He then clarified in a follow up post: ‘Context on this your [sic] a g**p basically.’
Replying to a follower who noted the footballer ‘is on one’, Duffy said: ‘I am yes because I’m annoyed! I’ll see you Saturday.’
Duffy denied claims he had been drinking, insisting ‘[I’ve] not had one [beer] since Oasis.’
The Irishman has not played a single minute of football this season.
It is not the first occasion the 33-year-old has landed himself in trouble. In July 2024, he was banned from driving and hit with a £25,000 fine after crashing his Range Rover while drunk. The incident took place in Hethersett, Norfolk.
In December 2023, Duffy – who had been in a long-term relationship at the time – was pictured kissing a mystery woman while at Winter Wonderland in London. He was dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.
