TV icon Bryant Gumbel is being treated in a New York hospital after suffering a reported ‘medical emergency.’

The 77-year-old won dozens of Emmy Awards during a remarkable career that included more than a decade as host of the Today show.

Gumbel was first hired by NBC in 1975 to co-host its NFL pregame show every Sunday. He later worked on the network’s coverage of baseball, college football, golf and the Olympics.

But on Tuesday, TMZ reported that Gumbel had to be rushed from his Manhattan apartment block to the hospital on Monday night.

Precise details of what happened are unclear but a family member told TMZ that the TV Hall of Famer is ‘okay’.

It’s claimed the 77-year-old was put on a gurney by first responders as they helped him out of his apartment building.

According to TMZ, Gumbel remains in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.

This ‘medical emergency’ comes not long after the death of his older brother, Greg, who passed away last year aged 78.
