Cristiano Ronaldo’s son has been called up to Portugal’s Under-16 squad for the first time.

Fifteen-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, who is at Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr alongside his father, has been included in a 22-player squad for the national team.

Portugal’s Under-16s are set to play against teams from Turkey, Wales and England between October 30 and November 4 in the Federations Cup Tournament.

Ronaldo Jr’s selection comes after he was named in Portugal’s Under-15s in May, raising the prospect of him one day sharing the pitch with his father.

While this may seem unlikely given Ronaldo Sr will turn 41 in February, the superstar continues to rage against the dying light, bagging a brace against Hungary last Tuesday to become the record goalscorer in World Cup qualifying history at 41.

Ronaldo’s overall career goals tally now stands at an astonishing 949.

Ronaldo has made 225 appearances and has scored 143 times for his country, a record in men’s football.

And it seems that he has transferred some of his awe-defying talents to his young son, Ronaldo Jr, who has spent time in the youth set-ups at Juventus and Manchester United – his father having played for both clubs before moving to the Saudi Pro League in December 2022.

Known as Cristianinho in Portugal, the yougster has even donned the No 7 shirt and played on the left wing for the younger age groups.

He recently came on for the Under-15s in a 4-1 win against Japan, where he was watched on by grandmother Dolores Aveiro, Ronaldo Sr’s mother.

It was also reported that scouts from United and several other top European clubs were in attendance to watch him.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo Sr said on Instagram at the time: ‘Congratulations on your debut for Portugal, son. Very proud of you.’

He made his debut for Selecao’s Under-15s in 2001, and is setting his sights on a record sixth World Cup appearance in the United States, Canada and Mexico next summer – which will presumably be where he calls time on his glittering career.
