  • Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters remains in disbelief
  • Labelled Postecoglou’s sacking ‘crazy’ and ‘scary’
  • Pair struck up a previous friendship in Melbourne

Kangaroos rugby league coach Kevin Walters has weighed in on Ange Postecoglou’s sacking from Nottingham Forest, labelling the decision ‘crazy, scary and unrealistic.’

‘I can’t see the sense in it,’ a compassionate Walters said of his fellow Aussie, who was only in charge for 39 days at the City Ground.

Postecoglou – who was also moved on from Tottenham in June despite winning the Europa League last season – paid the price after failing to chalk up a win in eight games.

A 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Chelsea on October 18 sealed his fate.

Postecoglou was relieved of his role by ruthless club owner Evangelos Marinakis less than 20 minutes after the final whistle.

Walters – who forged a friendship with Postecoglou when coaching at the Melbourne Storm – believes the former Melbourne Victory mentor will eventually be handed another opportunity at the elite level.

‘The football coaching world is a crazy world. I can’t see the sense in it,’ he told News Corp.

‘There nothing you can do about it, but the decision is just unrealistic, really.

‘I will try and reach out to Ange but will let him have some space first so he can get his head around what has happened.

‘He’s a great coach, we all know that. ‘He will get another opportunity.’

Meanwhile, Liverpool great turned pundit Jamie Carragher has outlined why he believes Postecoglou was on borrowed time.

‘We saw set piece frailties again (versus Chelsea) and that is the main reason why Ange has lost his job,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports.

‘It’s not about being too expansive or fullbacks in midfield getting caught out, it’s been about set pieces.’

It is hard to disagree with Carragher – Forest conceded 11 goals from either free kicks or corners under Postecoglou, which is more than double any other Premier League side.

He endured similar issues at Tottenham, which ultimately led to his downfall after finishing 17th in the league last season.

It comes as Forest are reportedly on the verge of appointing ex-Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche to replace Postecoglou.
