Ange Postecoglou was hit with “sacked in the morning” chants after Nottingham Forest suffered their latest collapse of the Australian’s disastrous tenure.

Postecoglou has yet to win a game since taking over at the City Ground but there was cause for encouragement during Saturday’s early kick-off against Chelsea, which saw Forest dominate in the first half.

They failed to capitalise on their pressure, though, and were promptly punished after the break as Chelsea scored twice in three minutes to put themselves 2-0 up.

Forest fans had been vocally getting behind their languishing team until that point, but as the City Ground was left stunned, it was only the mocking chants of the away end that could be heard.

Blues supporters basked in the dismay of Postecoglou, poking fun at what could be an imminent demise for the former Tottenham boss.

Boos also rung around the stadium as Postecoglou turned to the bench, bringing on ex-Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi in place of Douglas Luiz.

The 60-year-old cut a sorry figure, stood in disbelief on the sidelines with his hands on his head.

The same “sacked” chants rang out as Reece James added Chelsea’s third, which resulted in a mass evacuation of Forest fans from the City Ground with six minutes of the 90 still to play.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was watching on in attendance as the taunts rained in on Postecoglou, who he only hired as manager at the beginning of September after Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked.

Nuno was axed despite transforming the club from relegation candidate to Champions League contender, only just missing out on the top five last term. They ended up qualifying for the Conference League before being bumped up to the Europa League due to Crystal Palace’s breach of Uefa’s multi-club ownership regulations.

The deterioration of the relationship between Nuno and Marinakis led to the Portuguese’s departure, but there is now talk that Postecoglou could already follow suit, with Forest dwindling in 17th without a win since the Premier League’s opening day.
