  • Joel Davies reported to Cricket NSW’s code of conduct

Aussie cricket young gun Joel Davies has come under fire after simulating a sex act during a wild celebration when he took a wicket in a Sydney T20 match.

The incident unfolded during a first-grade game on October 12 between Manly and Sydney University, with Davies now facing possible action from Cricket NSW given he was reported.

The all-rounder, 22, celebrated a dismissal by thrusting his hips in the direction of a departing Sydney University batsman.

Manly cricket club president Andrew Fraser told the Daily Mail that Davies was merely ‘replicating a celebration made famous by NBA star Joel Embiid.’

Davies – who is contracted to the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash – has been reported under Cricket NSW’s code of conduct, but at this stage hasn’t been charged.

A commissioner will determine if there was a breach and whether any charge is to follow.

The rising star is the younger brother of fellow NSW Blues player Ollie Davies, who himself has caught the eye at Sheffield Shield level and for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash.

In August, the talented youngster extended his Sixers’ BBL contract until at least 2027.

He was also promoted from a rookie deal to a full contract with the NSW Blues earlier this year.

‘Joel is a really exciting young talent and someone who we see playing a key role in our team for years to come,’ Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said.

‘His skill set is well suited to our side – and we know how (coach) Greg (Shipperd) loves his all-rounders.

‘He’s also someone that we see with huge potential, and is eager to learn from the players and coaches around him.

‘We are looking forward to seeing Joel in Sixers colours for years to come.’

The Sixers will begin their BBL15 season with a tough assignment first up, taking on the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium on Sunday, December 14.
