- Silhouette shot from Sardinia has become a talking point
Many footy fans were delighted for sports presenter Danika Mason after she announced her engagement to ex-NRL star Liam Knight – but some couldn’t pass up the opportunity to poke fun at the couple’s silhouette shot from a beach in Sardinia.
Knight popped the question when the loved-up pair were holidaying in Italy – and the popular Channel Nine identity loved her dazzling ring.
But once the romantic silhouette image began circulating on social media, mass banter followed.
‘Congratulations to Nicho Hynes & Nathan Cleary on their engagement,’ The Rugby League Sin Bin joked on their Facebook page.
‘A beautiful image here that really captures the best of both their assets. Chin (Cleary) + long hair (Hynes) = a prosperous love story.’
The Retro Rugby League Facebook page also made their followers smile after cheekily declaring: ‘Congratulations Mary and Nathan Cleary’, a reference to Matildas fan favourite Mary Fowler and the Panthers superstar halfback.

Naturally, footy supporters soon weighed in on the engagement news – and they were typically savage.
‘Nathan Cleary is half that size and has double that chin,’ one posted in response.
‘Nicho is looking fit,’ joked another. ‘Can spot that (Cleary) chin from a million miles away,’ a third said.
Cleary himself is a good sport when it comes to commentary surrounding his chin.
He recently revealed following a win over the Gold Coast Titans that rival fans often taunt him about the size of his ‘button’ when he is looking to convert tries from the sideline – but he finds the comments entertaining.
Meanwhile, Mason and Knight went public with their romance in July 2024.
The pair finally confirmed their relationship via social media after months of speculation, with the footballer embracing Mason in a photo shared to his Instagram page.
‘My life’s good,’ Knight wrote in the caption, alongside the couple sharing a cuddle.

Knight inked a 12-month extension with Hull FC in July, but the prop is believed to have urged his management to seek a deal back home
It came after Mason dumped her ex Todd Liubinskas in September 2023, just three weeks before their planned wedding.
The Daily Mail previously revealed Liubinskas – a personal trainer – later asked Mason to give back her diamond engagement ring because it was a family heirloom.
Mason also kept the $1.5million Maroubra home she shared with her ex-fiancé and later confirmed the couple split due to a ‘breakdown in trust.’
‘It certainly was an emotional rollercoaster,’ she told News Corp.
‘When someone hurts you like that, you experience all the emotions from sadness to shock to anger. But sometimes you just have to get through it.
‘You’ve got no option, really… people would ask me, ‘Are you OK?’ And I’d say, ‘Not right now, but I will be.’
Mason also sought professional help at the time to help pick up the pieces – and soon met her Knight in shining armour.
After Knight agreed terms with the English team Hull FC in March, the couple began a long-distance relationship – and they have since enjoyed getaways together overseas at every opportunity.
