New York Jets star turns on head coach over controversial decision as season goes from bad to worse

New York Jets star Garrett Wilson made no secret of his frustration as the winless team slumped to 0-6 on Sunday.

The Jets continued as the only team in the NFL without a win this season when they narrowly lost to the Denver Broncos in a 13-11 defeat in London.

And the team’s relentless nightmare appeared to be taking its toll on Wilson as the wide receiver didn’t hesitate to direct his frustration at head Coach Aaron Glenn.

Trailing 10-6 the Jets rounded off their final drive of the first half by calling a fake punt to retain possession but bizarrely moved without urgency to get up to the line of scrimmage to snap another play.

Instead, Justin Fields and the offense stood and let the clock tick down, leaving fans, and Wilson, perplexed.

The vexed wideout was caught shouting at coach Glenn as the pair made their way to the tunnel at the end of the half.

Wilson, who was only targeted twice during the first half, could be seen wrapping an arm around his coach’s shoulders before leaning into his face and animatedly ranting at him.

‘I just didn’t know exactly what the plan was. Once I figured it out, I was disappointed,’ Wilson said, via The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt.

However, Glenn played down the interaction as he addressed Wilson’s outburst following the game.

‘He’s a competitive person,’ Glen said. ‘I mean, who wouldn’t be p****d when things [are] not going right on the offensive side of the ball? You guys know how he is. That’s not gonna change. I like that about him. When things are not going right, he gets p****d.’

Glenn also stood by the decision to run the clock down rather than make a play, claiming it was the ‘smartest thing’ to do.

‘I’m not about to sit there and try to get a play off and they would get the ball back—and I think they had a timeout left—and give them a chance to kick a field goal,’ he added. ‘I don’t think that’s the smartest thing to do. So let’s just end the half, we get the ball back and see if we get a chance to score.’

Wilson came into the London game as the Jets’ top receiver so far this season. He had 33 catches for 382 yards and four touchdowns.

However, he has been unable to help the Jets find their first win of the season. Since coming close to seeing off the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, New York has slumped into despair.
