Former Wales rugby coach Warren Abrahams has passed away at the age of 43.

The South African-born coach, who also previously worked in Harlequins’ academy, has been working with Belgium’s women’s team in Kenya, and died while he was with the team.

Belgium were competing in the Safari 7’s tournament when they learned of the news.

‘Warren was so much more than a coach, he was a mentor, a leader and above all, a kind and generous human being,’ Belgium Rugby said.

‘His smile, wisdom and calm strength he brought ton the team will never be forgotten.’ They also said that they were shocked and saddened by the sudden loss.

Throughout his career, Abrahams, as well as working with Harlequins between 2011 and 2019, also spent time in the sevens management teams of the USA women and England men. He was in charge of the Wales women’s team from November 2020 to July 2021.

The Welsh Rugby Union said: ‘Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Warren Abrahams from everyone in Welsh rugby.’

Harlequins added: ‘Everyone at Harlequins is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of former Academy Coach, Warren Abrahams.

‘Warren made an enduring impact on the club during his time with the academy from 2011 to 2019.

‘His passion, leadership and commitment to developing players were felt not only at Harlequins, but throughout the wider rugby world during his distinguished career.’

‘Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Warren’s family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.’
