Oswestry Library will be closing for a few days in late November for the installation of its new counter space, with thanks to the recent funding award from Arts Council England.

These closures will be as follows:

  • Thursday 20 November: Closed
  • Friday 21 November: Closed
  • Saturday 22 November: Open – with limited service
  • Monday 24 to Saturday 29 November: Closed
  • Monday 1 December: Open as normal with new counter.

These closures will be total, meaning that no services will be operating from the building and no entry will be permitted. Telephones will not be answered but email inboxes will be monitored.

Extra books may be taken to cover the closure, and no books will be due back during this time.

James Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for housing and leisure, said:

“Rethinking our library spaces is a necessity given the current financial emergency, and this funding will help allow the creative minds of our wonderful library staff to further utilise the spaces they have to the benefit of residents across Shropshire.

“We’re excited to welcome customers back to see the new counters and kiosks once they’re in place and look forward to continuing to develop and improve our library service.”

Meanwhile, the library will close at 3pm from Monday 20 October to Saturday 1 November [2025] – except for Thursday 30 October – due to anti-social behaviour.
