British cycling legend Chris Froome has shared the wounds he suffered during his horror crash in August.

Froome, 40, was airlifted to hospital with a life-threatening heart injury after he crashed while training in France, suffering a pericardial rupture —  a tear to the sac that surrounds the heart.

He was flown to a military hospital based in Toulon after hitting the kerb at 30mph and colliding with a road sign.

On top of his worrying heart issue, Froome also suffered a multitude of other serious injuries including broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a fractured vertebra.

But the cyclist has now taken to social media to deliver a positive update to fans, showing off the grisly wounds he sustained on Instagram.

Sharing a photograph of him appearing in good spirits while undergoing rehabilitation treatment on his chest, Froome revealed he is in ‘recovery’.

His nasty wounds could still be seen almost a month and a half after the crash.

Froome first broke his silence on the incident last month following his release from hospital.

He said in a statement: ‘Relieved to be heading home from the hospital today. Thanks to the staff at the HIA Sainte Anne.’

Froome, who will not be able to cycle for a significant period of time following the injuries, also posted a video on Friday showing that he was ‘back at it’ with physio exercises.

Speaking at a charity gala in Zurich last week, which saw the cycling legend make up part of panel involving Usain Bolt and Anthony Joshua, he said: ‘I think this was a motivation for me to try and push in terms of the rehab and getting out of hospital in time to be ready for this event because it sounds like its going to be an amazing evening.’
