The boy was struck at the Crossacres tram stop, police said

An 11-year-old boy remains in hospital with a serious injury after being struck by a tram as it pulled away from a stop, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the Crossacres tram stop on Brownley Road in Wythenshawe at about 15:40 BST on Tuesday.

The boy was hit by the tram as it started to move away from the station, police said.

Anyone who witnessed or who may have footage of the incident has been urged to contact the force.
