  • Reece Walsh stunt has sparked a wave of online copycats

Grand final-winning Broncos star Reece Walsh may have started a foul trend, with one social media user already attracting thousands of views for drinking toilet water.

Walsh sparked outrage after posting a video of himself drinking toilet water, claiming it was a new ‘recovery method.’

The Broncos quickly responded, saying the toilet was brand new and unused, and called his act a poor attempt at humour.

Walsh later doubled down by mimicking the toilet-drinking gesture as a celebration during a game, drawing mixed reactions.

Coach Michael Maguire admonished him to adjust his behaviour and reiterated team standards would be enforced.

Now a TikTok user named Winston Neville took to the platform to perform the foul act, captioning it ‘I’m about to have superpowers’.

In the video, the online podcaster dips a cup into a running toilet and fills it with water

In the video, he dips a clear plastic cup into a flushing toilet and then claims to drink it, although it could be editing trickery.

Viewers weren’t buying it, saying he switched the cup before drinking it.

‘I know he changed the waters I just can’t prove it,’ one posted.

‘This can’t be real,’ said another.

‘Hahaha Reece Walsh effect up the Bronx,’ a Brisbane supporter added.

His post came after earlier predicting the Storm to win the grand final and Cameron Munster to win the Clive Churchill.

Neville then posted the alleged toilet water drinking video with the overlay ‘I’ve seen enough’, suggesting he had lost a bet or a challenge.

The video has already attracted almost 50,000 views.

While drinking toilet water was popularised by Reece Walsh, it was unfortunately not a challenge he invented.

There is a YouTube video dating back eight years that shows a 12-year-old carrying out the stunt, albeit after a lot of hesitation.

In 2020, a TikTok user tricked his friends by rigging his toilet bowl, making it look like he was drinking toilet water but actually swapping it out for clean water.

There are other isolated inidents of people drinking toilet water, or at least pretending to, but fortunately it doesn’t appear to be a viral trend just yet.

Walsh has certainly cashed in on is notoriety, though.

As he was doing his lap of honour at Accor Stadium a Broncos fan presented him with a replica toilet, which he proudly hoisted above his head.

And behind the scene, he produced a toilet-shaped mug to drink beer from, with coach Michael Maguire also sipping from the vessel.
