Robert Griffin III involved in ‘scary’ car crash with wife and kids as shocking photos emerge

Ex-NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III has revealed he and his family were in the ‘worst car accident of our lives’ on Friday after sharing terrifying photos from the scene.

While confirming that they are all safe and well, Griffin opened up on the ‘scary’ crash that occurred as he drove with his wife Grete and their children in Fort Worth, Texas.

‘Just got in the worst car accident of our lives with my wife and kids in Fort Worth, Texas,’ he wrote. ‘Scary crash, ricocheted off the highway divider multiple times, blown both front tires. Thankful to God that my wife and kids are safe.’

Griffin, who played for the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, appeared to be in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with his family when the collision happened.

The other vehicle was left in a significantly worse state, with the front bumper and hood completely destroyed in the crash. The identity and condition of the other driver is currently unclear.

Griffin has been married to Estonian heptathlete Grete for seven years after they met back in 2016. They share three daughters in Gia, 2, Gameya, 5, and Gloria, 8. 

The former football star is also a dad to 10-year-old daughter Reese Ann, whom he shares with ex-wife Rebecca Liddicoat.

When he brought his nine-year NFL career to an end, Griffin joined ESPN in 2021 after the network fought off interest from Fox Sports, who were impressed by his audition and desperately wanted to sign him.

He spent three years working on ESPN’s ‘Monday Night Countdown’ show but was replaced by Jason Kelce in the 2024 offseason, a move which left Grete furious.

‘Onto bigger and better things,’ she posted on social media after his exit last year.

Griffin, who won the Heisman Trophy back in 2011 while playing college football for Baylor, also worked on ESPN’s college football broadcasts alongside announcer Bob Wischusen.
